WebDAV connection settings (Enterprise feature)

Install a network location in My Network Places/Computer/Finder to access your storage space. The network location is placed as a folder in your computer. You can move and save files as usual, but for some time now, Office programs have not allowed you to edit files via the WebDAV protocol. We therefore recommend using the Storegate Cloud Folder program in the first instance. In the instructions below replace username with your username. For Windows 1. Open Windows Explorer and select "This computer". 2. Select "Computer". 3. Click "Connect network device". 4. Select your desired drive letter, and type https://webdav1.storegate.com/your_username as "Folder". 5. Check both "Reconnect at login" and "Connect with other credentials". 6. Click on "Finish" 7. Enter your username and password. 8. Click on "OK". For Mac OS X 1. In the Finder, select "Go" and then "Connect to server". 2. Type in https://webdav1.storegate.com/your_username as Server address. 3. The next box that comes up, type your Storegate username and password 4. Click the plus sign to add the connection to "Frequently used servers". 5. Click Connect. Enter your username and password. After this, you have to make sure that the connection always starts with the computer: Open System Preferences and go to Users & Groups and then Startup Items Press the plus icon and scroll down to the distributed webdav directory (1 in the picture). Then select the webdav directory (2 on the picture) and press add (3 on the picture) Now the connection will be present when you restart your computer. For Linux (GNOME) 1. Start the File browser (Locations/Computer). 2. If the address line where you can enter a location is not displayed, this is done by selecting Go/Location. 3. In the address line, type davs://webdav1.storegate.com/your_username 4. Confirm with your username and password.

Set up a "local copy" of your Storegate environment with SyncbackPro

In the event that your internet connection is lost, it may be a good idea to have important data saved locally, at home, at the company or with a third party. To copy the data on your Storegate account, we recommend SyncbackPro. The program connects through the webdav protocol and can run in a client or server environment. SyncbackPro allows you to transfer files on a pre-determined schedule such as backup, mirroring or synchronization. The software copies recent file and folder changes on the shared disk on the Storegate to a local disk. 1. install SyncBackPro: - If you have not already done so, download and install SyncBackPro https://www.2brightsparks.com/download-syncbackpro.html - Follow the installation instructions to complete the installation. - Buy a license https://affiliate2brightsparks.evyy.net/c/3643863/296512/4592 or click evaluate for a 30 day trial period. 2. Open the program and create a new backup profile: - Click on "New Profile" to create a new backup profile. - Enter a suitable name for the profile (e.g. "Storegate Backup"). - Select "Backup" as the direction of the profile. 3. Configure the source and target: - Enter the source folder where your files are located (Webdav Storegate). - Set target folder as local folder - Click 'Next' and enter: webdav1.storegate.com/username/. - Enter your username and password - Click ready. 4. Configure folders and scheduling: - Click on the folder and select the source folders on Storegate for copying. - Select the target folder for the content - Click on the 'When' clock icon to schedule 5. Finalize configuration and run a test Now SyncBackPro will back up your files to the target folder you selected. Remember to regularly check that the backup is working as expected. NOTE! To copy files located in the sub-user's My Files, the Extended Access add-on service must be active on the account.

Invalid characters in Storegate

The following describes invalid and illegal characters for file name, folder name and path in Storegate. Characters you should never use in file and folder names: • / (slash) • \ (backslash) • ” (quotation mark) • | (pipe) • < (less than) • > (greater than) • : (colon) • ? (question mark) • * (asterisk) Windows does not handle file names and folders over 260 characters - Note that Windows counts the full path as part of the file name. This means that e.g. C:\Users\Karl.Karlsson\Storegate\My Documents\Customer Projects\Secure Storage\Status.doc is 84 characters long. If you have problems with too long file names, you can shorten the folder names or simply move the folder up to a higher level. 4. Temporary files are not synced - Some programs (e.g. Microsoft Office programs) create temporary files when they open a file, these files are not synchronized. Examples of file names are: - File names starting with ~$ (tilde and dollar sign) - File names starting with .~ (a dot and tilde) - File names starting with tilde and ending with .tmp such as ~document.tmp 5. - If you have different Unicode settings on different computers, there can sometimes be problems when special characters are used and need to be synchronized between computers. In most cases, the file is synchronized, but sometimes a new file with a new file name is created. 6. avoid syncing metadata and resource files - Avoid syncing files that are so-called metadata or resource files. An example of this is Shortcuts in Windows, these will not work on e.g. a Mac computer.
