Overview

Storegate Online Backup is a backup service that automatically protects your files by storing them in encrypted form in the Storegate cloud. The service is designed to run in the background and ensures that your important files are always available for recovery in case of, for example, hard drive failure, accidental deletion, or ransomware attacks.

Backup Methods

Scheduled Backup

With scheduled backup, backups are run automatically according to a selected schedule.

Configurable settings include:

  • How often the backup should run (e.g. daily)

  • The time of day the backup is performed

  • Which files and folders should be included

Scheduled backup is the foundation of Storegate Online Backup and is recommended for most users.

Real-Time Backup

Real-time backup is an add-on to scheduled backup and means that the application continuously monitors selected files and folders.

When a file is:

  • modified

  • saved

  • or replaced

it is uploaded to Storegate’s servers immediately, without waiting for the next scheduled backup run.

Important information about real-time backup

  • Real-time backup does not replace scheduled backup, but works as a complement.

  • The feature is recommended for:

    • documents

    • work files

    • other files that change frequently

  • Real-time backup is not recommended for:

    • external hard drives

    • network drives

  • With very large data volumes or many frequent changes, system performance may be affected.

Security and Encryption

All data backed up with Storegate Online Backup:

  • is encrypted before leaving the computer

  • is stored securely in Storegate’s Swedish data centers

  • can only be decrypted by the user

This means that not even Storegate has access to the contents of your backups.

File Restoration

When needed, files can easily be restored, including:

  • individual files or folders

  • previous versions of files

  • entire backup sets

Restoration is performed directly through the client application.
