Installing Online Backup on Windows

This guide will help you install the Online Backup application the first time you start using it. If you have already used Online Backup and are going to install it on a new or reinstalled computer, use the wizard HERE. Guide for Online Backup for Mac available here. Install Storegate Online Backup 1. Start by downloading Online Backup here: 2. Start the downloaded installation file. The installation will then start 3. Press next 4. If you are asked to allow the program to make changes, press approve/yes 5. Press Start 6. Enter your login details and press "Login". 7. Type the name you want to give your backup and press next. In the example we call it "My Computer" 8. Select the files/folders you want to back up. In the example we have selected "Documents" which means that all subfolders will also be selected. 9. Press "Start Backup". The computer will now work for a while depending on how many files are to be uploaded to the backup. 10. After a while, the program will say Upload complete! This means that all files are uploaded and everything is working properly. The program will now automatically upload files that change under the folders you previously selected.

This choice requires that you have a free backup license on your account or that you delete an existing license so that you can reuse that license. Continue below if you want to create a new backup. 8. Select No, I want to create a new backup and press next 9. Type a name for your backup and press next. 10. If you don't have any backup licenses available, you'll get a message where you can choose to buy new licenses or manage the ones you have. If you don't need the backups that use the licenses, you can click on "Manage your backups". You will now be sent to our website and back-up management. Click on the tick at the far right next to the backup to be deleted and verify. Once the backup is deleted, you can create a new backup in the application. Go back to the Online Backup application and click "Next". 11. Select the files/folders you want to back up. In the example we have selected Documents which means that all subfolders will also be selected. 12. Press Start Backup. How do I verify Online Backup is installed and running?

Windows Go to the taskbar next to the date display and click on the arrow that shows the programs running in the background. Then click on the padlock. When the program is running a backup, arrows will appear instead. If you cannot find the icon, the program is not running. In that case, start the program by clicking on the start menu and type Storegate Online Backup. macOS Go to the system tray in macOS next to the date display and check that there is a padlock. When the program is running a backup, an arrow will appear instead. If you can't find the icon, the program is not running. In that case, start the program by clicking on the start menu and type Storegate Online Backup.

Can I continue my old backup on a new computer?

No, it is not possible to continue on an old backup from a new computer. You need to have one backup license per computer you want to backup. You can add a new license for the new computer under "Account" when you are logged in via the website. If you do not want to add a new license, you must first delete your old backup to release that license.

Restore data using Online Backup for Windows

Deselect any files you don't want to be restored and press Next. 11. Check the information that everything looks right and select "Start download" 12. When the operation is complete, the following box appears. You can now find your files where you chose to save them. If you press "done", the program will offer to help you create a new backup. How do I free a backup license?

To delete the old backup and release the backup license to use it on a new computer, log in to your account via the website: https://web.storegate.com/ Keep in mind that everything stored in that backup at Storegate will be deleted. 1. Click "Computer Backup" in the left menu 2. Click on the gear icon on the far right 3. Click on "Delete Backup" and then on "Delete" again to confirm

Is Online Backup automatically updated?

Yes, the program automatically checks for updates in the background. If a newer version is available, it will be downloaded and you will be notified. You can choose to update later or immediately. The update usually only takes a few seconds.

Editing your backup

1. Right-click on the program icon (looks like a padlock) for Storegate Online backup, located in the taskbar (bottom right of the screen, by the clock). 2. Select "Open" from the menu that appears. 3. When the program appears, select "Settings". 4. Then click on "Edit your backup" and uncheck the folders and files you don't want to be backed up. 5. Finish by clicking "Ok" 2 times.

Installing Online Backup on macOS

1. The application can be downloaded here. 2. Start the installation by double-clicking on the downloaded installation file. 3. Drag and drop the Storegate Online Backup application from the DMG to the Applications folder on your computer. 4. Start Storegate Online Backup from the Applications folder. To check which files are included in your backup, you first need to open the application by clicking on the padlock icon and selecting "Open". When the application is up, click Backup. There you can then check which folders are included in your backup. Check/uncheck as you wish. If the files/folders you are looking for are not in any of the folders in the simple menu, click on advanced and look for them there instead. Check the boxes to include the files/folders in your backup. Click on the small arrows to expand and see subfolders.
